1. What is your photography/videography style?
Understanding the style of your photographer or videographer is crucial. This ensures that your wedding content mirrors your vision. For example, do they focus on candid shots or traditional posed photos? A photographer who specializes in a documentary style may present your day as it happens. In contrast, someone with a more artistic approach might create beautiful staged shots.
Reviewing portfolios can help; look for a variety of styles in their work. Ask specific questions about their approach to capturing weddings. This will illuminate whether their aesthetic aligns with your expectations.
When I shoot weddings, I typically use a documentary style. I love capturing candid moments rather than posing for the camera. Don't get me wrong; I do pose my couples. However, I prompt them 70% of the time versus posing them directly. This approach helps ease anxiety. I can capture authentic laughs and smiles throughout the day as much as possible.
2. Are you available on my wedding date?
Confirming availability is a straightforward but vital step. Popular photographers and videographers often book several months or even years in advance. If you find a professional you love but they are not available on your date, this could lead to disappointment.
Make sure to establish their availability early in the conversation. This avoids falling in love with someone who cannot celebrate your big day with you.
3. How many weddings have you shot?
Experience can significantly influence the outcome of your wedding photos and videos. When asking this question, look for a professional with ample wedding experience. A photographer who has captured over 100 weddings likely has the expertise to manage various scenarios. These may include low-light conditions or last-minute changes.
Understanding their experience will help you gauge how they handle challenges. This is essential for capturing all the moments, from the walk down the aisle to the first dance.
I've been shooting weddings since 2017, and it's never been full-time for me. I have experience in photography, videography, and content creation for multiple years. I typically shoot 5-10 weddings a year.

4. What packages do you offer?
Different photographers and videographers offer a range of packages. Services and pricing can vary widely. Some may provide a basic package that includes only a few hours of coverage. Others might offer full-day services featuring pre-wedding shoots as well.
For example, a popular package might cover 8 hours of shooting, include a second shooter, and offer a highlight video. Ask about customization options, as many professionals are willing to tailor their packages to better meet your needs and budget.
I can customize any package to fit your budget and needs, so just ask! For my full pricing sheet, feel free to browse here!

5. How long will it take to receive the final images/videos?
Knowing when to expect your wedding photos or videos is important for planning. Many photographers deliver edited images within 4 to 6 weeks, but this can vary. Some professionals might offer expedited services for an additional fee, delivering photos in as little as two weeks.
Understanding the timeline will help you manage expectations. You can make decisions regarding thank you cards or social media sharing.
I deliver lifestyle galleries (maternity, senior, engagement, couples, etc.) within 3-4 weeks after the session date. For weddings, I provide a fair amount of sneak peeks within a week after the wedding. The rest is delivered within 6-10 weeks. I have a longer process time since this is my second job. I want to give your images and films the care they deserve!

6. What is your editing process like?
Editing drastically affects the final look of your images. It's important to understand the professional's editing style and how much editing will be performed. Do they aim for a bright and airy look? Or do they prefer rich, moody tones?
It’s also beneficial to ask if you can have input on the final edits. Some photographers allow couples to select their favorite images while others may choose independently. Knowing this will help set your expectations for the final product.
I'm a lighter, true-to-color editor with some contrast. I try to maintain that look throughout my photos and videos. Once I'm home from a session, I upload it into Aftershoot to cull and complete the first edit pass. Then, I go one by one to give each photo the care it deserves in Lightroom.

7. Do you have backup equipment?
Technical issues can arise at any time, making it vital to confirm that your photographer or videographer has backup gear. A professional should have extra cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment available. This preparation shows their commitment to capturing your day without a hitch.
For example, if they come equipped with two cameras, they can switch to the backup should one fail, ensuring you don’t miss critical moments.
I will always have at least 2 camera bodies, multiple lenses, tons of SD cards, multiple mics, and everything else I need to capture your day flawlessly.
8. Will you have an assistant?
Having an assistant can enhance the photo and video coverage of your wedding. For larger weddings with many guests, an extra set of hands can help capture different angles and candid moments.
Ask whether the professional will travel with an assistant. Their support can ensure no special interaction or moment slips through the cracks, adding value to your overall experience.
I always recommend booking 2 photographers or videographers. I typically handle video solo, but having two people is helpful to capture both the bride and groom separately. This way, we can capture all the missed moments. My lower-end packages only have one shooter for couples on a budget, but most of my packages come with two.
9. Can we see a full wedding gallery?
Viewing a complete gallery from a full wedding provides a deeper understanding of a photographer's work. It's helpful to see not just standout shots, but also the story woven throughout the entire event. Ask to see a full gallery from a wedding similar to yours.
This helps you assess the photographer or videographer's consistency and storytelling ability throughout the day.

10. What is your cancellation and refund policy?
While no one wants to think about cancellation, it’s wise to understand the cancellation and refund policy in case plans change. Asking this question will give you peace of mind and allow you to approach the booking process confidently.
Make sure to clarify what happens if you need to reschedule or cancel entirely. Also, ask whether deposits are refundable or transferable.
Your deposit is non-refundable, but everything else is up to 30 days prior to the wedding. Things happen, and I totally understand! Just let me know as soon as you can. If you need to reschedule for any reason, let me know ASAP in case I'm booked. We can explore other options together.
